About Stefan Mcguire
Living and growing up in the Portland Metro Area his entire life, Stefan began his career in home inspections as an apprentice to his dad Daniel McGuire (OCHI #039). Following Daniel throughout the houses, on the roofs, under the home’s crawlspace, and doing in the field training by a veteran home inspector has taught Stefan to be extremely thorough and very dedicated to his clients’ best interests. Gaining knowledge, doing hands-on training, and learning how to do this job by someone with over 14 years of home inspection experience has helped Stefan become very aware of the potential issues that face most structures built in our region of the country.
As equally important to experience in this industry, is Stefan‘s ability to interact with the home buyer, present the information about the home in writing, and explain the details of any defects discovered. Doing over 800 ride-alongs (before starting out on his own in 2006) Stefan wrote most of the inspection reports that he and his father inspected together- discussing the defects and conditions observed together was a great way to be taught how to clearly convey information to the experienced, or first time home buyer. After 3 years in full-time training, Stefan was more than ready to become an Oregon Certified Home Inspector.
Prior to going to work with his dad, Stefan was driving nails and building things even before he was in grade school. Practically every job that Stefan has ever worked at has helped to train him as a home inspector. From working on a framing crew, installing vinyl windows, working with a roofer, doing rental maintenance and general handyman type of work, doing plumbing and electrical repairs, and his all-around ability to construct, remodel, and/or repair systems is outstanding. Stefan even worked in a technical bookstore that specialized in over 4000+ books specifically relating to all aspects of homes and the construction industry. Seeing what causes problems and damage to a house, and then doing the repair (and remedying the cause) teaches beyond the book and the classroom. “When you were helping put on roofs at 14 and working on a framing crew at 16 you really get a head start in this industry. Just as an example; Stefan personally did the plumbing on an entire new house construction project consisting of more than 6+ bathrooms, the county inspector was really impressed with his knowledge and precision! Past clients who have worked with Stefan or those who read his inspection reports request him personally by name when ordering an inspection of the house that they are buying, they tell their friends, co-workers and relatives to use him” says his dad Daniel.
